Greater Thousand Oaks, including neighboring communities in the Conejo Valley, have for long been a beloved destination for a variety of stars. Ever since the time of Jungleland USA and the region’s motion picture epoch, celebs have flocked to the T.O. area in search for a more peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. And with new homeowners such as Britney Spears and Ellen DeGeneres, Conejo Valley sure has experienced a recent popularity amongst the Hollywood superstars.
The city’s history of stars is old. Movie actor Will Rogers moved to the community in the 30s, as recommended by fellow entertainer Joel McCrea. 6) Belinda Carlisle
A Newbury Park local, Carlisle may be most known for her role as the lead singer of The Go Go’s, as well as her U.S. chart winner record “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” (1987). Spending much of her childhood and teenage years in Newbury Park, Carlisle attended middle school in Thousand Oaks and later Newbury Park High School.
5) Heather Locklear
A longtime resident of T.O.’s North Ranch, Locklear may be best known for her role as Amanda Woodward in the Golden Globe-winning TV-series Melrose Place. Locklear gained national media coverage in 2017 following a Thousand Oaks car accident, where the actress was taken to the local Los Robles Hospital following the collision.
4) Amanda Bynes
A Thousand Oaks native, Bynes was born and raised in T.O. An actress starring in hit movies such as What a Girl Wants and the 2007 musical Hairspray, Bynes has also received rather unflattering media attention in recent years. In 2013, it was reported that the actress started a fire in a Thousand Oaks driveway.
3) Dean Martin
A previous homeowner in Thousand Oaks’ Hidden Valley, Dean Martin is arguably one of Conejo Valley’s most notable fames. Dean Martin, a world-renown actor and artist, has been featured in films made in the area. An example is the 1956 comedy Hollywood or Bust, which was partially shot on Live Oak St.
2) Ellen DeGeneres
Having owned various rural homes in the city, DeGeneres bought a $8.5 mi. house in town in 2009. Located on a 26 acre “compound,” the property brags 8 cabins, several barns, horse stables and ball courts.
1) Britney Spears
Public records represented by the Los Angeles Times indicated that the pop superstar had become a Thousand Oaks resident in 2012, after having purchased an $8.5 mi. mansion near Lake Sherwood. The nearly 1.5-acre lot is home to a 2010 villa complete with 7 restrooms, wine cellar, and all the luxury you would need for an 8,500 sq. ft. house. Spears has been sighted and photographed numerous times in town, for instance when shopping for groceries at the local Target.

From Marilyn Monroe, Sylvester Stallone to Roy Rogers (who played in over a hundred films), this list is far from complete. For the sake of trivia, we may mention that Elvis Presley often visited the region, although never settling here. The 1960 Elvis film Flaming Star was shot in Wildwood, which also lends its name to a nearby street: Flaming Star Ave. We may also add that the city often was visited during movie productions, including by John Wayne for a number of film productions in Wildwood Park. More recently, an estate by the Santa Monica Mountains was visited by Meryl Streep during the filming of the 2009 comedy It’s Complicated.
